What are your emotions today? Anxious for the ads and calls to end? Scared for what the future holds? Excited because you think your candidate will win? Careless? Wondering what I’m talking about?

Tomorrow a great decision will be made—a decision that will direct the path of this country for the next four years, and impact the course of our nation. This decision will directly impact you in some way, shape, or form. It will impact your children, their children, and probably their children.

All of this to be said, I find peace in the fact that tomorrow’s decision has already been made. No matter what happens tomorrow, we can hold fast to the truth that God is ultimately in control. The ruler of the universe is not sitting on the edge of His throne tonight wondering who will lead America. He already knows, and rules over this new leader…whether they know that or not, that is a different story.

I am not making a claim the voting is not important—it is, or saying that we should not pray earnestly for Americans to vote wisely– we should.  What I want to take a minute to do today is just to remind us that God is sovereign. He is good. He is just. He is God. He is.

I thought my friend and co-worker summed this up nicely in a blog he recently wrote:

God alone knows the future crises of health, weather, economy, security, etc. we will face in the coming months and years. Like all leaders, our future President will likely face unforeseen challenges and will have to lead us through challenges we cannot anticipate. Instead of appealing to assumptions about the future, candidates should emphasize the wisdom with which they will lead our country come what may.

As you prepare to vote this election season, remember no man knows the future, only God. Our hope is in Him.

I leave you with this comfort:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33
